Water education packages

With continued level 4 water restrictions in place at Coonabarabran, Council and Smart Approved Watermark have joined forces to deliver education packages to the local community to help businesses, residents and visitors make further positive changes to water use.

“Education packages, home audit kits and Water Saving Action Plans have been delivered to accommodation venues and schools in Coonabarabran”, said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd. “I would like to thank the businesses and schools that received and have been using the packages. The response was overwhelmingly positive with many businesses taking the opportunity to discuss water usage and get some advice on completing Water Saving Action Plans.”

“In the current climate with this devastating drought, it is important that everyone in our community becomes water wise. Coonabarabran was selected to receive these education packages as the town has been on high level water restrictions for over two (2) years, with no sign of easing”, said Cr Todd.

Accommodation venues received room packages to educate visitors about the current water restrictions. These businesses were also issued with home audit kits and Water Saving Action Plans. Schools were given a water efficiency audit, four (4) books about water cycles and a series of activity sheets.

“As part of the education package roll out, households in Coonabarabran will shortly receive water saving flyers with the option to pick up a free shower timer from the Council Administration Office to use in their homes. Home audits are also available on Council’s website”, explained Cr Todd.

“Again I would like to thank the whole community in Coonabarabran for their resilience and the action residents have taken to preserve water during these severe drought conditions”, concluded Cr Todd.
