StarFest 2020 is set to go virtual!

StarFest 2020 is set to be out of this world with a line up of events and activities that will be running with a slight twist on previous years.

Throughout October 2020 the StarFest events will be presented mostly virtual due to the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Even though these events have slightly changed StarFest is still set to be full of family fun.

“For the first time in many years, there will be no Open Day at Siding Spring Observatory (SSO) during the NSW Labour Day Long Weekend. Instead, SSO, Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA), and the local Coonabarabran community have organised a number of virtual events,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “With the unprecedented year we have all faced, it is great to see these organisations and community members coming together to make StarFest 2020 happen.”

“There is an exciting array of events throughout StarFest 2020 including: the StarFest Goose Chase, which is 3 full weeks of great family friendly fun; Virtual Science in the Pub featuring panelists Fred Watson, Kirstin Banks, Carol Oliver and Abigail Fraeman; Siding Spring Observatory Virtual tours; and many more virtual events to keep an eye out for. “

“The StarFest Committee has put in a great effort to come up with innovative ways for StarFest to go on following the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee comprises representatives from Siding Spring Observatory, Australian National University, Dark Sky Innovations, 2357 Partnership, iTelescope, and Warrumbungle Shire Council,” Cr Doolan explained.

“These events are a great initiative by the StarFest Committee and I would encourage everyone to get involved in these family friendly activities throughout the school holidays and October Long Weekend,” concluded Cr Doolan.
