Warrumbungle Shire announces 2020 Australia Day Ambassadors

Warrumbungle Shire Council is once again participating in the Australia Day Ambassador Program, with Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd, looking forward to welcoming the Australia Day Ambassadors to the area.

“As in previous years our Shire will be welcoming two (2) Australia Day Ambassadors to the Shire with one (1) Ambassador attending events in the Northern part of the Shire and the other attending the events being held in the Southern part of the Shire”, said Cr Todd.

“I am pleased to announce that our Australia Day Ambassadors for 2020 will be Anupam Sharma who will be visiting Coolah, Dunedoo and Mendooran and Jeremy Jones AM who will be visiting Coonabarabran, Baradine and Binnaway”.

“Anupam Sharma is a filmmaker, speaker and author with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Films and Theatre, and a post-graduate thesis on cinema from University of NSW. Named as one of the fifty most powerful and influential Australian film professionals by Encore magazine, he is the founding head of films and casting TEMPLE, one of the most prolific and award winning international production and consultancy firms based out of Fox-Studios – Sydney”, said Cr Todd.

“Our second Australia Day Ambassador is Jeremy Jones AM, a community builder and human rights activist, who has promoted inter-religious dialogue and community harmony in NSW, Australia and internationally over the past four decades. The 2016 winner of the NSW Government's Stepan Kerkyasharian Medal for promoting Community Harmony, the winner of the 2007 Australian Human Rights Medal and a Member of the Order of Australia (conferred in 2005), he has participated in dialogues and conferences on human rights issues in 35 countries. A fifth-generation Australian, he is a graduate of the University of Sydney, majoring in History and Government, explained Cr Todd.

“I look forward to welcoming both Anupam and Jeremy to our Shire and to sharing Australia Day with them and our local communities.”

“I would also like to remind people that Council is providing free entry to swimming pools across the Shire on Australia Day”, said Cr Todd. “We hope that people will take the opportunity to have a day at the pool celebrating what is great about Australia and our local communities, as well as attending the local Australia Day events being held in each of the local towns across the Shire”.
