It’s no waste of time to recycle!

Choosing to reuse, recycle or throw your waste into landfill may have a bigger impact than you think.

“Tonnes of waste is received each year at the landfill site in Coonabarabran” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd. “Residents are asked to think about whether it can be recycled before throwing waste into the general waste bin.”

“Coonabarabran is the only landfill site across the Warrumbungle Shire Council area, servicing over 9,000 people. There are many items currently going into landfill that could be recycled.”

“To encourage residents to recycle more sorted recyclables can be delivered free of charge to all Council Waste Transfer Stations and the Coonabarabran Landfill” said Cr Todd.

“Kerbside pickup services are also available in all towns and some rural areas across the Shire, for both recycling and general waste, making it even easier to recycle. Many residents will find that recycling bins fill faster than general waste bins when recycling correctly,” Cr Todd explained.

“It is important to keep our communities clean as well and to encourage this, waste from one 240L general waste wheelie bin can be received at no charge on each visit to a Waste Transfer Station. Charges will apply to other items and larger quantities” said Cr Todd.

“Property owners are charged a flat fee each year to cover the costs of operations for receival and processing of general waste across the Shire.”

“Ensuring Warrumbungle Waste provides recycling and general waste services that are effective and financially sustainable is part of how our Council will be sustainable into the future. Just remember that it is not a waste of time to recycle,” concluded Cr Todd.
