Have Your Say – Drought Communities Programme - Extension

Another round of Drought Communities Programme - Extension grants worth $1million has been allocated to Warrumbungle Shire Council. Council is calling for the community to have their say on these projects.

“The Federal Government has released funding to drought affected communities to complete drought-relief projects and Council has been lucky enough to be allocated $1million”, said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd. “Council is seeking community input to put forward ideas and assist with prioritising acceptable projects, which will be put to Council at the December 2019 Ordinary Council Meeting.”

“In 2018 Council received the first round of the Drought Communities Programme - Extension and this is another round of grants which is targeted to providing short-term support into local drought affected regions, including boosting local employment, buying local materials, and addressing social and community needs”, Cr Todd explained.

“In the last round of similar funding the projects which were granted to Council included banners and banner pole installation, free Wi-Fi sites in towns, aerodrome fences, bore installation, swimming pool upgrades, Town Hall improvements, cemetery upgrades and enhancing recreation grounds, just to name a few.”

“This is now time for community members to have their say and place a submission to Council for the next round of Drought Communities Programme - Extension grants. This is a great opportunity for all local communities to get on board and tell Council which projects they would like to see get endorsed for this funding”, concluded Cr Todd.

Submission forms can be found on Councils Website under the ‘Have Your Say’ tab or at administration offices in Coolah and Coonabarabran. All submissions must be submitted to Council by close of business Wednesday 11 December 2019.
