Free Wi-Fi in Warrumbungle Shire

Free Wi-Fi across the central business districts of the six major towns in the Warrumbungle Shire area has now launched.‚Äč

Earlier this year Council received $55,000 worth of funding from the Federal Government through the Drought Communities Programme – Extension, for the installation of public Wi-Fi in the CBD across the six (6) towns in the shire area.

Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd said, “this project is a great opportunity for the Council area to become better connected with access to free Wi-Fi now available to the public.”

“Providing free Wi-Fi in towns across the Shire will benefit a wide range of residents and visitors to the area. The ease of access to this Wi-Fi allows anyone to find and connect in each town. To connect the set device needs to search and find the town Wi-Fi, then by connecting and submitting the form any members of the public can use the Wi-Fi.”

Cr Todd explained “public Wi-Fi helps to ensure a better connected community. It gives everyone access to a range of information including health advice, job opportunities and online education. Also, as travelers are able to access this service it will support the visitors to our region.”

“The Drought Communities Programme – Extension aims to provide support to selected local government areas that are affected by the current drought. Projects must benefit the local community, for example by providing employment for people whose opportunities are impacted by the drought, or improving infrastructure. The Wi-Fi project employed local contractors, which gives a real boost to the local economy. The free Wi-Fi service also provides long-lasting infrastructure for the community”, said Cr Todd.

Works have been completed in all six (6) towns across the Shire area. The service is live and operational at Binnaway, Coolah, Coonabarabran, Dunedoo and Mendooran. The service in currently in the testing phase at Baradine and will go live in the coming weeks.
