Firsthand insight to the running operations of local treatment plants

Students from Coonabarabran High School were recently given the opportunity to gain an insight into the water management systems in which runs both water and waste water in our local communities.

“Council recently provided a guided tour of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants in Coonabarabran for year 11 and 12 science students of Coonabarabran High School,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “The visit was part of a project for Earth and Environmental Science students to extend their knowledge on water within our local communities.”

Water and Waste Water services are one of Council’s largest services provided to the community every day and the running of these plants is technical and must be precise to ensure our communities are receiving a high-quality service.

“The visit was greatly received by both the students and the Warrumbungle Water staff who got to pass on their expertise on all areas of the water and wastewater treatment processes, showing the students first-hand the quality water being produced by the local Council infrastructure,” said Cr Doolan.

“Coonabarabran High School students were very enthused with the tour and Council hopes that they enjoyed the experience and can take learning from the field back to the classroom to aid there HSC studies.”

“The services provided by Council to our communities every day are run by local community members, so allowing a firsthand insight into the operations of Council is a wonderful way to strengthen this community connection,” Cr Doolan concluded.
