Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWOREZ) Projects

Warrumbungle Shire Council continues to monitor the impact of the growing number of projects that are part of the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). Community members are urged to keep up to date with the projects as they unfold.

“The NSW Government’s EnergyCo is proposing to construct and operate a major electricity transmission line through parts of the southern end of the Warrumbungle Shire,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “Connecting to this transmission line will be a multitude of wind and solar farms along with battery storage facilities.”

“The latest project under consideration by the NSW Department of Planning is the transmission line itself. Council has recently lodged a submission objecting to the EnergyCo Transmission Project EIS; a Critical State Significant Infrastructure project with capital investment value of $3.2 Billion. The project involves the establishment and operation of new electricity transmission infrastructure, new energy hubs and switching stations and ancillary works required to connect new renewable energy generation and storage projects to the REZ”, said Cr Doolan.

“There are currently 11 different renewable energy projects commencing across the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone which will impact our local government area all at different stages of the planning process all which Council has submitted different submissions for”, said Cr Doolan.

On the home page of Council’s website there is a Banner called ‘Latest news from Council on Renewable Energy Zones (REZ)’ where community members can see the latest information on the REZ from the EngeryCo website and view the detailed submissions that Council have made regarding these projects.

“In addition to the projects located within the Warrumbungle Shire there are also numerous projects located in neighbouring Local Government Areas, especially Mid-Western and Dubbo regional councils. The delivery of these projects will potentially be clashing and creating major cumulative impacts on our communities, including impacting housing and accommodation, roads, labour and workforce and social aspects,” Cr Doolan explained.

“I would urge interested persons to take this opportunity familiarise themselves with these projects and keep up to date with information out on public exhibition allowing you to have a say on these projects via Central-West Orana REZ website”, concluded Cr Doolan.
