The Castlereagh River Revitalisation Project has improved the health of the river and riparian zone by significantly reducing woody weeds and other invasive species and allowing space for native regrowth. The project also included the creation of essential native habitat such as riparian 'snags', tree hollows, and movement corridors. 220m of riverbank was treated and 1,700 local riparian plants and 10kg of native grass seed were planted throughout the area. A Community Planting Day and BBQ was held at the site to engage with people in the area, with about 75 community members attending. This area of riverbank has been revitalised to become an accessible and picturesque picnic and fishing spot, next to the Castlereagh Highway, for tourists and locals to enjoy.
