As part of the Castlereagh River Rehabilitation Project, which is supported by Council, the Community Project Group and Warrumbungle National Park Environmental Education Centre (WNPEEC) two events have been conducted to provide learning opportunities for local students:
• Macro-Invertebrate and water quality testing with Coonabarabran Public School in March
• Environmental DNA sampling with Coonabarabran High School in May
These events enabled students to undertake an aquatic ecology / river health assessment using sound scientific methods to test the water quality and aquatic biota of the Castlereagh River environment.
The Community Project Group will also host a community information day for the schools and wider community in Spring. During which the first results of the scientific monitoring studies undertaken as part of this project will be presented to the students and community.
