Underbore Project – Saleyard Creek, Coolah

The project to replace the existing water main that crosses Saleyards Creek at Coolah has been completed, securing water supply to the town.

“The replacement of the main that crosses Saleyards Creek in Coolah was necessary following weather events in November 2022 and February 2023,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “During these extreme weather events the high water flow in Saleyards Creek caused a failure in the water main and disrupted supply to all customers in Coolah.”

These works were delivered utilising a complex underbore technique that involves a specialist machine drilling a hole under the creek in which the new water main will be placed, without any excavation from the surface. Using this technique, Council staff were able to install the new water main approximately 5 meters below the creek floor.

“These works will significantly increase the resilience of the Coolah Water Supply Scheme, ensuring that Council can continue to supply water to customers during natural disaster events,” said Cr Doolan.

This project is a part of Council’s water mains replacement program and commitment to the delivery of safe and secure water supplies across the local government area.
