Sewer Relining and Rehabilitation

To help maintain a modern sewerage system to our local communities over 1,000 metres of sewer mains are currently being relined and rehabilitated.

“Those sections of sewer mains that have poor condition are being relined across sewerage reticulation networks in Dunedoo, Coolah and Coonabarabran from July to September 2023,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “Relining is a cost-effective technique to rehabilitate sewerage mains to significantly extend the lifespan of the existing asset by 50 years.”

Relining involves inserting a new liner into an existing pipe which is stronger than the existing pipe material. This not only reduces the cost but it is also less disruptive as it avoids digging up the mains impacting on residents and road users.

“These works are being delivered by a specialist contractor, Interflow Pty Ltd, who has been engaged by Council to reline over 1,000 metres of pipeline in three towns,” said Cr Doolan. “There is 214 metres of relining to be completed in Coonabarabran, 415 metres in Coolah and 448 metres in Dunedoo. The mains to be relined were specifically identified by staff for the rehabilitation works due to their aged condition.”

Council has approximately 75km of gravity sewer mains of different condition. This is part of a 30-year program valued at $7.3 million and will see all mains renewed as part of Council’s ongoing asset renewal program ensuring Council infrastructure is performing at its designated level of service.

Interflow will be working in Dunedoo, Coolah and Coonabarabran until late-September while these works are being carried out. There will be no interruptions to any services during the completion of these works.
