Three new school-based trainees have been welcomed into Warrumbungle Council’s School Based Traineeship program and will undertake qualifications in Horticulture, Automotive Servicing and Tourism. Our commitment to providing ongoing opportunities for youth within the Shire will allow these new recruits to undertake study while gaining hands on practical experience in the workplace over the next two years. These Year 11 students will spend one day per week working for Council for the next two years while they complete a recognised qualification as part of their Higher School Certificate studies. “School-Based Traineeships are a fantastic way to ensure local students have a successful transition from school to work or further study,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “This program provides a great opportunity for local students to gain on-the-job experience and a nationally accredited, industry recognised qualification while completing their Higher School Certificate.” “Council advertised a range of School-Based Trainee opportunities in September 2022 and a merit-based selection process was completed before offering the school-based traineeships to the three students,” said Cr Doolan. “Council’s School-Based Traineeship Program aims to improve future employment opportunities for students, both locally and further afield.” This new cohort joins Council’s three existing School Based Trainees who have now commenced the second and final year of their traineeships in the fields of Supply Chain Operations, Business Administration and Accounts Administration. “Congratulations again to our three successful applicants,” concluded Cr Doolan.
