Pothole Repair Program across Warrumbungle Shire

Did you know that since the Pothole Repair Program commenced in January 2023, Council has repaired 13,271 potholes on 3,345km of road across the Shire?

“Council received $864,683 under the Pothole Repair Program to repair potholes on local and regional roads damaged after ongoing wet weather events that hit the Warrumbungle local government area between November 2021 – September 2022,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “Council has spent just over half of the funding so far and during September and early October 2023, 3,106 potholes were repaired on 26 Regional Roads, 21 Local Rural Roads and 20 Urban Roads.”

Aside from Roads crews working six days a week most weeks on our local rural roads performing pothole repairs, Urban Services crews are working up to three days per week in urban areas where service levels permit to ensure the funding is spent. Crews are also working longer hours where necessary to get these works completed.

“A second tar patching truck has been hired and is being used to complete pothole repairs in the northern end of the Shire. This will assist with completing pothole repairs in the shortest time possible,” said Cr Doolan.

“Warrumbungle Shire Council manages over 2,500km of roads and virtually every part of the road network was affected by the severe rain events in 2021 and 2022. It has been great to see the repairs happening right across the LGA after the very lengthy process involved to claim funding assistance after natural disasters,” said Cr Doolan.

“Restoring the condition of our roads will be a long process. This funding assistance for pothole repairs must be spent by January 2024,” said Cr Doolan.
