Planned Hazard Reduction - Rocky Glen Village

The Castlereagh Zone Rural Fire Service will be conducting a hazard reduction burn starting on Monday 27 August – 30 September 2021
(if weather conditions are suitable)

The area to be treated is;
• ‘Rocky Glen Village’ Oxley Highway Rocky Glen (Click to see map)

The work of hazard reductions works of vegetation hazards are required to reduce the risk of damage caused by fire to homes and other property during a bushfire. As prescribed burns will generate smoke, hot embers and heat, it is important residents in these areas consider the following:

• Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes
• Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns
• Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage
• Remove washing from clotheslines
• Ensure pets have a protected area
• If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on
• For safety reasons public access to these areas will be restricted during the works

People who have asthma or a lung condition need to reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high. If shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice.

While the RFS will restrict public access during the hazard reduction works, parents should also make sure their children are supervised and kept away from the hazard reductions. It’s not only the fire danger but also the fire appliances that are a risk during these types operations.

The RFS also encourages residents to stay up to date with these Hazard Reductions on the ‘Fires near Me’ application or www.rfs.nsw.gov.au.
