MEDIA STATEMENT - Coonabarabran Swimming Pool

Coonabarabran Swimming Pool is now open to both season ticket holders and general pool users.

In response to reports of people falling ill at the pool mid last week the pool was closed as a precaution and Council conducted microbiological sampling. The samples were tested by an independent laboratory.

Council also increased chlorine levels, back washed pool water and completed a deep clean of amenities including disinfecting floors, walls, benches, basins and toilets.

Results of microbiological testing have been returned to Council. The samples taken comply with all water quality criteria of the Public Swimming Pool Advisory Document 2013, Health Protection NSW.

Residents should note that Council uses liquid chlorine, not chlorine gas to disinfect the pool. To ensure our pools are safe to swim in, each day Council conducts multiple water quality tests on chlorine and pH levels at each of its six pools.

NSW Health has recently seen a rise in the number of cryptosporidiosis notifications in some parts of NSW. Swimmers can easily contaminate public pools and Council requests that people DO NOT SWIM if they have had diarrhoea in the past two weeks.
