Local Government Week 2023
Local Government Week is here (31 July – 6 August 2023) and Council is using this occasion to celebrate the range and diversity of services our Council offers, ran by locals for the local community.
“Everything from community services, childcare, sports fields, parks, and cemeteries, and local road networks through to food safety checks, building and development, water supply and pet registration our Council is on the ground running every day,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “As the level of government closest to communities, councils are best placed to activate healthy local economies and thriving neighbourhoods.”
Over the past few years, the Warrumbungle Region had been hit by some extremely adverse events and has emerged in strong shape thanks to the hard work of the local community, the financial support of State and Federal governments and the frontline efforts of Council staff.
“With extreme weather events on the back of pandemic and plagues, these testing years have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that councils are best placed to provide a locally led economic recovery for their communities and create new jobs for ongoing resilience,” said Cr Doolan.
“With so many incredible services provided to our community daily, I am so proud of our community and our council and our staff, who have used funding support wisely on projects that have helped to maintain jobs and keep money pumping through the local economy.”
Cr Doolan said “recent projects included the building of the new Robertson Oval amenities and upgrades to sporting ovals and swimming pools in all six (6) towns to running an award winning innovative ‘Rise and Shine it’s Time to Dine Meal Vouchers’ program assisting our community get back on their feet, and not to mention to continual road work and maintenance program rolled out Shire wide, all for our community.”
“Local Government Week is a time to acknowledge these achievements and acknowledge that our Council is ran by local people, for local people,” said Cr Doolan.
