Level 1 Water Restrictions Introduced – Baradine

With the ongoing dry conditions and dropping water supplies level 1 water restrictions have been put in place from 6 November 2023 for Baradine.

“The introduction to level 1 water restrictions is in response to the ongoing dry conditions and the increased demand being placed on the Baradine water treatment plant,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “The Baradine water treatment plant is an aged one and currently we are working on a replacement but until that happens we need to take care of the existing plant. The new plant will not be completed for a number of years yet.”

“Binnaway, Coonabarabran, Mendooran and Merrygoen are already on Level 1 water restrictions, now Baradine will join them.”

“This decision has not been taken lightly,” said Cr Doolan. “Council is keen to make timely decisions in relation to water restriction levels as we seek to preserve precious water supplies.”

On level 1 water restrictions, residents are asked that watering systems, non-fixed sprinklers, hand held hoses, microsprays, drip systems and soaker hoses, are only used between 6:00pm till 9:00am daily. Washing of cars is permitted with buckets only and rinsed with trigger hose only, on lawn at any time.

Residents in all towns across the Warrumbungle Shire are encouraged to limit their water usage and preserve water wherever possible.

“It is important for our communities to conserve water where possible, and compliance to these water restrictions in Baradine, Binnaway, Coonabarabran, Mendooran and Merrygoen is really important,” Cr Doolan concluded.
