Level 1 Water Restrictions continue

Level 1 water restrictions will continue to be in place and enforced throughout Baradine, Binnaway, Coonabarabran, Merrygoen and Mendooran.

“As of 20 February 2024, Timor Dam was at 65.23% capacity, which is slowly increasing with some minor rain events over the past few weeks and the Castlereagh River remains steady,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “However, with ongoing dry conditions forecast and high-water usage residents are reminded that Level 1 water restrictions are still in place for Baradine, Binnaway, Coonabarabran, Merrygoen and Mendooran.”

“Even with continuous minor rain events across the Shire it is important to recognise the ongoing need to reduce water consumption as the Bureau of Meteorology is still forecasting less than average rainfall across western New South Wales for the coming months,” Cr Doolan explained.

Under level 1 water restrictions, for households there is a target water consumption of 260 litres per person per day. Gardens may be watered using watering systems, non-fixed sprinklers, handheld hoses, microsprays, drip systems and soaker hoses, between 6:00pm till 9:00am daily. Washing down walls and paved surfaces is not permitted.

“Council appreciates residents’ ongoing efforts to comply with these water restrictions and the Warrumbungle Water team will continue to monitor water supply levels closely,” Cr Doolan concluded.

Residents are encouraged to limit their water usage and preserve water wherever possible. For a range of water saving tips, please refer to the Warrumbungle Water page on Council’s website.
