Improvements to the water supply at Dunedoo are set to get underway with works to replace the rising main commencing in August. “The installation of a new water main pipe will replace the existing rising main,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councilor Ambrose Doolan. “This project is part of Council’s continuous Capital Works Program replacing aging water infrastructure.” “The Dunedoo Rising Main project is a continuation of the works that were carried out during 2020/21 financial year that saw the rising main replaced underneath the Golden Highway/Bolaro Street then down along the Dunedoo Caravan Park,” Cr Doolan explained. The rising main in Dunedoo is the large water main that delivers waters to the reservoir. Replacing this aged section of water infrastructure will improve water security by reducing the likelihood of future breaks, and any inconveniences that water mains breaks cause such as water loss and potential water outages, and increased costs for repairs. The next two sections of the project will be carried out with assistance of an under boring contractor, with one section of pipeline being shot across Caigan Street and the other under the driveway and heavy vehicle access of the Shell Service Station. “In addition to the new pipelines there will be automatic air valves installed which will assist in removing any naturally occurring air along the pipeline, preventing unexpected supply interruptions.” “This project will see the water supply in Dunedoo become more reliable and sustainable, now and into the future,” Cr Doolan concluded. During this construction period residents in or around Caigan Street, Dunedoo may experience short term supply interruptions and changed traffic conditions while construction of the water main is in progress.
