Family Open Nights full of learning for all

Family Open Nights for Children Services was a huge success showcasing all things education for local families.

“Over the last couple of weeks Warrumbungle Children’s Services have been hosting family open nights at Yuluwirri Kids Bandulla Street and Robertson Street campuses,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “The events were an opportunity for families to tour the centres, meet the educators and learn about the curriculum.”

At Yuluwirri Kids, both Preschool and Long Day Care families viewed their children’s portfolios, chatted with the teachers about the educational program, collected school information and enjoyed light snacks prepared by the centre’s Cook. At Robertson Street, families had a similar experience and were able to meet educators from across Children’s Services including the Monkey Room Preschool, Connect Five Mobile Services and After School/Vacation Care.

A Scholastic Book Fair was also held on both nights displaying the best in children’s literature for family and children to browse and buy. The purchases made at the Book Fairs will help the centres stock up on further resources to enrich the children’s education. Transition to School information was also available with enrolment packs available for both St Lawrence’s Catholic Primary School and Coonabarabran Public School.

“This was a great success for both our educators and families and was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the education and care environments as well as giving families a chance to see firsthand what their children are learning,” said Cr Doolan.

Families provided great feedback on the open nights with one email saying, “We would like to thank each and every one of the staff at Yuluwirri Monkey Room and OOSH on their great Open Night at Robertson Street and how much they go above and beyond for our kids. It was greatly presented and we appreciate all you do. Thank you for making such a difference in our boys’ lives.”

“This is such wonderful feedback from our local families and we hope to see more families join Warrumbungle Children Services,” Cr Doolan concluded.
