Dalgarno Street, Coonabarabran pavement improvements

The proposal to widen the Dalgarno Street footpath in Coonabarabran is now on display, and Council is asking for community feedback on the proposal.

“Widening the footpaths will aim to improve pedestrian access as well as reduce the likelihood of vehicles reversing into objects on the existing footpath,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “Council is encouraging residents and business owners of Coonabarabran to have a look at the proposed plan, with the opportunity to have your say.”

The proposal will see the width of the footpath increase by 1.5 metres on both sides of Dalgarno Street between John Street and the entrance into Woolworths’ carpark.

As the existing concrete kerb and guttering is cracked and beyond repair and the height of the existing kerb is difficult for many people to step up on. The proposal is to construct new concrete kerb and guttering at a lower height of 150mm, and to ensure this new footpath and guttering is sustainable, it will be constructed with reinforced concrete and the existing concrete kerb will be infilled with a drainage grate.

Dalgarno Street will remain open but there may be some disruptions to parking and footpath access, while works take place.

“I am looking forward to once again making improvements to streets in the Coonabarabran township. In recent times we have seen the need to replace verandah posts after they were impacted by a reversing vehicle, and I have also seen pedestrians having difficulty stepping onto the kerb. This proposal is a great project that will improve the amenity of a busy section of Dalgarno Street, Coonabarabran,” concluded Cr Doolan.

Council has allocated $160,000 towards the project which is entirely funded from the Australian Government’s Local Roads & Community Infrastructure program.

Plans are currently on display on Council’s website and comments on the project will be received up until 4:00pm 5 March 2021.
