ROAD WORKS UPDATE ACROSS THE REGION

PROJECTS

There’s plenty happening across our local parks, playgrounds and recreation spaces.

Major Culvert Projects

Sandy Creek Road: Box culvert works commenced on 25 February 2026 and is now in the final stage of completion with the deck being poured last week. 

Rotherwood Road: Box culvert construction commenced on 1 May 2026. Side tracks have been established, and excavation of the existing structure is underway. The project is targeted for completion by July 2026. 

Other Projects

Fixed Road Closure Gates: The installation of gates has been completed at all three sites, Horseley Street Coonabarabran, Namoi Street Coonabarabran and Yarrow Road Mendooran. Gates have been installed at sites regularly affected by water over the road, resulting in road closures. This will save staff time and physical labour to put out and then collect signs after water has subsided.

Town Projects

Baradine

Baradine Oval Kiosk Awning Structure and Accessible Toilet: 95% complete. Awaiting installation of door to accessible toilet.

Oxley Crossing Picnic Table: Complete.

Coolah

Bowen Oval New Amenities Building: External cladding and doors completed. Plumbing fit out underway. Construction of connecting paths underway.

School of Arts: Repairs to parapet wall above the roof and concrete ball project commencement has been delayed until second week of May 2026. Footpath travel maybe rerouted during the project.

Coonabarabran

Coonabarabran Footpath Project: Trees are now being planted in Cassilis and Bandulla Streets which completes this State Government funded project.

Native Grove Cemetery: Concrete kerbing has been completed, and backfilling with topsoil is currently underway. Irrigation and turf placement is planned for the final week of May.

These works will add 136 interment plots to the Cemetery.

Goolhi

Goolhi Hall: New water tank, plumbing and minor kitchen renewal works are underway and expected to take 2 to 3 weeks.

Mendooran

Mechanics Hall Kitchen: Renewal is nearing completion. The air conditioning is being installed and staff are awaiting delivery of the new stainless steel refrigerator.

Neible Road Causeway: Project completed.

BARADINE

Baradine Oval Kiosk Awning Structure and Accessible Toilet: Electrical connection and alarm completed for sewage pump out tank.

COOLAH

Bowen Oval Playground: Repairs to be completed shortly.

Bowen Oval New Amenities Building: Internal cladding and plumbing underway. The old white storage shed has been demolished.

McMasters Park Playground: The DA is being assessed. Procurement has commenced.

COONABARABRAN

Native Grove Cemetery: Construction underway with roadworks and forming for new concrete plinth.

DUNDEOO

Milling Park Playground: The DA is being assessed. Procurement has commenced.

Robertson Oval Recreation Upgrade: Community engagement has commenced and the drop-in session at Robertson Oval was held Thursday, 2 April 2026.

MENDOORAN

Mendooran Oval Amenities: Door locks have been replaced and toilet cistern repaired. Project completed.

Proposed Mendooran Skate Park: Proposal currently being assessed. The community engagement has commenced and the drop-in session was held Friday, 27 March 2026 at the Mendooran Mechanics Institute.

PROJECT UPDATES

Here's what's happening across our local parks, playgrounds and recreation spaces.

Baradine

Baradine Oval Kiosk Awning Structure and Accessible Toilet: Awning completed and accessible toilet 60% completed.  Awaiting S68 approval for toilet.

Coolah

Bowen Oval Playground: Still closed while repairs continue. New soft fall is being installed, with fence repairs and shaded seating to follow before reopening.

Bowen Oval Recreation and Amenities Upgrade: The project is in the final stage of community engagement underway. DA to be lodged soon, with procurement to follow. 

Bowen Oval New Amenities Building: Framing and roof installation have been completed.

Coolah Aerodrome: Fence repairs have commenced with the old fence being removed this week. The new fence will be installed once the materials have been received.

McMasters Park Playground: The second round of community consultation is scheduled for 25 February 2026.

Coonabarabran

Skate Park Shade Sails: The remaining sail was damaged beyond repair during recent storms. Two replacements have been ordered and will be installed once received.

No. 2 Oval Amenities and Kiosk Renewal: DA has been lodged and the Request for Tenders has been issued.

Native Grove Cemetery: Construction by Contractor of another row of burial plots is scheduled to commence 16 February.

Dunedoo

Milling Park Playground: The second round of community consultation is scheduled for 25 February 2026.

Robertson Oval Recreation Upgrade: Community engagement will be commencing shortly.

Mendooran

Mendooran Oval Amenities: Awaiting power connection to the site.

Neible Road Causeway: Concrete slab and precast box culvert units installed.  Project 60% completed.
