The Warrumbungle Shire was honoured with a visit from Her Excellency, the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of NSW, and Mr Denis Wilson to Coonabarabran on Friday 20 June 2025 as part of her wider tour of the Central West.

The Governor and Mr Wilson were warmly received at a special community luncheon held at the Coonabarabran CWA Hall, hosted by the dedicated members of the Country Women’s Association. The luncheon brought together local community leaders from across the Shire who were treated to a delicious selection of soups, sandwiches and the CWA’s famed scones.

Amongst those in attendance were Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor Kathryn Rindfleish, General Manager Lindsay Mason, Acting Director Corporate and Community Services Dan Smallwood, and Councillors Jason Newton, Zoe Holcombe, Kodi Brady and Naomi Taylor. Mayor Rindfleish participated in the formalities of the event, welcoming the Governor on behalf of the region and Her Excellency shared heartfelt remarks about the importance of community connection.

Mayor Kathryn Rindfleish noted ‘It was a great honour to welcome Her Excellency and Mr Wilson to our Shire. The visit was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the spirit of our communities and the natural beauty of our region. It’s also a great occasion for community leaders to come together in appreciation of all of our hard-working volunteers and those essential services in the Shire.’

CWA Coonabarabran Branch President Fay Chapman also addressed the gathering, expressing appreciation for the Governors visit and the recognition it brings to the tireless work of regional volunteers and community groups.

Her Excellency spoke graciously of the strength and warmth of rural communities, highlighting the importance of regional NSW to the states identify and future.

The visit continued over the afternoon with a visit to the Warrumbungle National Park and the Environmental Education Centre. On a very brisk Saturday morning, the tour joined locals at The Sky River Path in Neilson Park for Park Run, further showcasing her Excellency’s commitment to engaging with communities in meaningful and active ways.

The Warrumbungle Shire Council extends its sincere thanks to Her Excellency and Mr Wilson for their time, interest and care shown to our communities.
