Vanessa Wang - Educator
Vanessa's role is about much more than caring for children.
Every day she helps children learn, build confidence and develop important life skills through play, creativity and meaningful experiences.
What are your main roles and responsibilities?
I work as an Early Childhood Educator in Children's Services, supporting children's learning, development and wellbeing through play, care and meaningful experiences.
What's one thing people might be surprised to learn about your job or service?
People often think we're just babysitting but we're actually building relationships, supporting learning, and helping children develop confidence every single day.
What do you enjoy most about working for Warrumbungle Shire Council?
The supportive and inclusive team culture. Everyone is valued, respected and encouraged to grow.
How does your role help our community?
By giving children a safe place to learn and grow, we help families balance work and family life while supporting the wellbeing of our community.
What does a typical day in your role look like?
Every day is different! One minute I'm a storyteller, the next I'm a singer, a dancer, an actress, and sometimes a referee when little disagreements pop up!
What's the best thing that's happened to you at work recently?
One of the best things that's happened to me recently is hearing the children at Robertson Street Preschool proudly answer "到!" during roll call. They know it's how we say "here" in Chinese, and they love using it. As a former language teacher, it makes me smile every time.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy walking my dog, Curly, a Jack Russell, with my son in the park.
If you could describe our community in three words, what would they be?
Friendly, welcoming and peaceful.
