Tyson Galvin - Supply Officer

Without Tyson, many of Council's services would quickly grind to a halt.

From fuel for Council's fleet and machinery to supplies for Children's Services, Tyson manages the stores and inventory that keep Council operating every day.

What are your main roles and responsibilities?
My role includes managing fuel data, procurement, purchase requisitions, goods receipting, stores and inventory management, and overseeing the stores at Coonabarabran. I make sure Council has the supplies it needs to keep services running across the Warrumbungle Shire.

What's one thing people might be surprised to learn about your job or service?
People are often surprised by just how much is involved in managing and maintaining every part of this role. There's a lot happening behind the scenes to make sure the right supplies are in the right place at the right time.

What do you enjoy most about working for Warrumbungle Shire Council?
What I enjoy most is the people. Many of the employees I started with years ago are still here, and we've become our own little community, or family. The people who trained me, like Lisa G, Bianca, Chris K, Maree and Kweelan, are still with Council, and people I've trained are now in leadership roles themselves. Claudia is a great example. I was once her Team Leader, and now she's the Manager of that very department. Seeing people grow and succeed is something I'm really proud of.

How does your role help our community?
I'm responsible for making sure Council has almost everything it needs to deliver services. If I'm not on top of stock levels, work can quickly come to a halt. From the fuel that keeps our vehicles and machinery operating across the shire to the wipes used in our Children's Services, it all comes through our stores before reaching the people who need it.

What's one challenge people don't realise comes with your job?
Fuel management is one of the biggest challenges. Fuel is essential to almost everything Council does, but it can be difficult to source at short notice. Most of our fuel comes from Dubbo, so I need to monitor tank levels every day and stay in constant contact with suppliers. We can have thousands of litres in storage one minute, and within an hour a large amount can be gone as our fleet refuels. Staying ahead of demand is critical to keeping Council operating.

What's been one of your proudest moments working at Council?
Watching the people I've worked with and trained over the years flourish in their careers. It's incredibly rewarding to see people succeed and to know I may have played a small part in helping them get there.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending time with my children and doing my best to help shape them into fine young men.

What's one thing your teammates would say you're known for?
Loyalty, with a splash of Lisa Grammer attitude.

What's one thing you love about the Warrumbungle Shire?
Even though we cover such a large area, there's hardly anywhere you can go without knowing someone, whether it's through footy, work or just growing up around here. Everyone's good for a chat, a wave or a "G'day". That's what makes country communities so special.

What do you hope the Warrumbungle Shire looks like in 10 years' time?
A McDonald's or KFC wouldn't go astray!
