Council Reminds Residents to Keep Public Spaces Clear
Published on 14 July 2026
Council is reminding residents to keep footpaths, roads, nature strips and other public spaces clear and accessible for everyone in the community.
As part of an upcoming proactive compliance program, Council will be inspecting public areas across the Shire to identify unattended property that may be creating safety hazards, obstructing access or impacting the appearance of our towns and villages.
Keeping public spaces clear helps create safe, welcoming and attractive communities for residents and visitors alike.
Items such as trailers, boats, caravans, vehicles and other personal belongings left on public land can obstruct pedestrian or vehicle access, create safety hazards and detract from the appearance of our towns and villages.
Council is encouraging residents to check that any vehicles, trailers or other personal items are being stored on private property, rather than on public roads, footpaths, nature strips or other public land.
The compliance program will be undertaken in accordance with the Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021, which gives councils powers to manage unattended property in public places.
Where unattended property is identified, authorised officers may issue notices requiring items to be moved within specified timeframes. If notices are not complied with, Council may issue penalty infringement notices or take further action where appropriate.
Council understands that many residents may not be aware of the legislation and is encouraging everyone to review any items stored on public land before inspections commence.
Residents with questions about the compliance program are encouraged to contact Warrumbungle Shire Council on (02) 6849 2000 or email info@warrumbungle.nsw.gov.au.
