Council thanks the Coonabarabran community for water saving efforts

With the water level at Timor Dam lower than it has ever been the town water supply in Coonabarabran is under significant pressure. “Everyone is aware of the dire situation we are currently in with relation to the town water supply”, says Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Peter Shinton. “If there is anything positive about this situation it is how everyone is pulling together and making a real effort to save water and limit their water usage”. “On behalf of Council, I’d like to say thank you to the residents of Coonabarabran for their water saving efforts and for taking this situation so seriously”, said Cr Shinton.

Please be advised that the Warrumbungle Shire Council Administration Offices in Coonabarabran and Coolah will be closed on Good Friday, 30 March 2018 and Easter Monday, 2 April 2018. Other Council Services including Services NSW will also be closed on these days. Offices will re-open Tuesday, 3 April 2018 at 8:30am. In the event of an emergency, please call (02) 6849 2000 or (02) 6378 5000 and you will be put through to Council’s After Hours Service.

Call Out for Drovers and Drivers to Remain Diligent

Central West Local Land Services, along with Warrumbungle Shire Council are appealing to drovers and drivers to be aware of their responsibilities when sharing our roads with livestock. It is the responsibility of drovers to ensure that stock signs are located on the roadside and clearly visible to drivers approaching from either direction at all times when stock are not in a holding yard. Drivers are also reminded to slow down and remain cautious when they approach a stock ahead sign.

The recent rainfall has not been sufficient in the Timor Dam catchment area to have any impact on water levels in the dam, which has fallen to 37% capacity. Not since the major drought in 2002/2003 has the level been this low.

Sir Ivan Fire - Burnt Fencing Wire Collection and Recycling

Thanks to Upper Hunter Shire Council, two metal recycling companies have offered to load and remove burnt fencing wire, posts and other ferrous metals from farms that have been affected by the Sir Ivan Fire, at no charge to farmers. The collection is planned for late October 2017, date to be confirmed.
