Coonabarabran Water Main Replacement project update

The second of three water main replacements projects in Coonabarabran has now been completed, improving the quality of water delivered to customers.

“Council’s water reticulation team has been working hard to complete water main replacement projects across Coonabarabran,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “280 metres of water main piping have now been replaced in King Street between Cowper and Drummond Street, Coonabarabran.”

“The Warrumbungle Water team will now finalise the planning and delivery of the water main upgrades in Robertson Street, Coonabarabran which is expected to commence in December 2023.”

These replacement works are part of the 2023/24 financial year capital works program where approximately 1km of cast iron water main in Coonabarabran was identified to be replaced.  The old cast iron water mains have been a cause of dirty water problems from time to time.

As works roll out across Coonabarabran residents who are connected to the water main where works are being completed, may experience minor water supply disruptions, and will be notified prior to works.

This project is a part of Council’s commitment to supply safe and secure water to customers across the local government area (LGA). Council is committed to investing into the reticulation network to continuously upgrade the network for the community.

“Council’s water mains replacement program is targeted at replacing water mains that are exhibiting issues within the various reticulation networks across the LGA. These programs reduce leaks, improving the efficiency of Council’s water supply operations and improve the quality of reticulated water supplied to customers,” Cr Doolan concluded.
