Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWOREZ) Projects

Community members are urged to keep up to date with the growing number of CWOREZ projects as they unfold within our local communities.

“Council is continuously monitoring these projects that are part of the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) and the impact that these projects may have on our communities,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “There has been a number of opportunities where Council has provided feedback on exhibited documents for a number of REZ related developments.”

Council has recently submitted feedback on exhibited documents for the Liverpool Range Wind Farm – Modification 1 – Amendment 2 – Temporary Worker Accommodation (TWA) Facility. Council maintains its objection to the proposal in totality for the following reasons: The Modification Application does not satisfy the criteria to deemed a modification and a key component of the project, namely a large greenfield quarry, is yet to even be assessed. There still remains a lack of information provided on cumulative impacts and how these impacts will be addressed. As well as lack of progression of planning agreement with Council.

“In addition to the direct impacts from the projects located within the Warrumbungle Shire on our communities there are a number of REZ projects in neighbouring Local Government Areas potentially clashing, creating major cumulative impacts on our communities, including impacting housing and accommodation, roads, labour and workforce and social aspects,” Cr Doolan explained.

“There are currently 15 different renewable energy projects commencing across the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone which will impact our local government area all at different stages of the planning process all which Council has submitted different submissions for,” said Cr Doolan. “All submission have been made public and members of the public can also make submission on exhibited documents.”

On the home page of Council’s website there is a Banner called ‘Latest news from Council on Renewable Energy Zones (REZ)’ where community members can see the latest information on the REZ from the EngeryCo website and view the detailed submissions that Council have made regarding these projects.

“I would urge interested persons to take this opportunity familiarise themselves with these projects and keep up to date with information out on public exhibition allowing you to have a say on these projects via Central-West Orana REZ website”, concluded Cr Doolan.
