Becoming a Councillor – Pre-Election Candidate Briefing Workshops

Interested in becoming a councillor? This is an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the role and responsibilities as an elected member.

There will be two Pre-election Candidate Briefing Workshops held within the Warrumbungle Local Government Area, one in Coonabarabran on Monday 24 June 2024 and the other in Coolah on Tuesday 25 June 2024.

The election, which is to be held in September 2024, will see the election of a new Council for Warrumbungle Shire. Residents should start thinking now about their involvement in the process. If you are interested then signing up to this workshop would be the first step of the process.

“Being a councillor is an important role and is a great opportunity to make a difference and have an impact on your local community,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “Councils are responsible for making significant decisions that have far-reaching impacts on their community. So, if you are passionate about what happens in your local community and are wanting the opportunity to have an impact on your community by standing to become a councillor then please register and come along to one of the workshops.”

“The workshops will be presented by Jenny Dowell. Jenny has extensive experience in local government and has previously held the role as a Lismore Councillor for 12 years and was the Mayor of Lismore between 2008 and 2016. Jenny is also a Mayors’ Mentor for Local Government NSW.”

“Council has arranged for Jenny Dowell to present at these workshops as she brings a wealth of knowledge to the candidate briefings for NSW councils. Jenny delivers a wide range of pre- and post-election training last local government elections,” said Cr Doolan.

“Nominations to stand in the local government elections close in August 2024, so now is your chance to nominate to represent your community,” concluded Cr Doolan. To register or seek further information then please contact Executive Assistant to the General Manager, Erin Player on (02) 6849 2000.
