Water restrictions eased in Coonabarabran

With three new bores coming on line Warrumbungle Shire Council made the decision to ease water restrictions in Coonabarabran.

“At the December Council Meeting, Council agreed to an easing of water restrictions in Coonabarabran from Level 6 down to Level 5” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd.

“Water restrictions in Coonabarabran have been able to be eased to Level 5 due to the increased water security provided by the new bores. Level 5 restrictions allow the watering of gardens with buckets and watering cans for two (2) hours a day between 6:00pm and 8:00pm”.

“Council is hopeful that that easing of water restrictions will enable residents to preserve some of their gardens during the hottest time of the year”, said Cr Todd.

“The decision to ease water restrictions has not been made lightly and Council will continue to monitor both demand and river flows closely”.
“If demand gets to high or the supply is affected then Council will need to consider reinstating Level 6 water restrictions”, Cr Todd said.

“In Binnaway, Dunedoo and Mendooran water restriction levels have been increased to Level 3 due to low levels in the Dunedoo well and the Castlereagh River. Water restriction levels in Coolah and Baradine stay the same with Coolah on Level 2 and Baradine unrestricted”, said Cr Todd.
Updated notices outlining water restrictions will be distributed.
