Stronger Country Communities Fund Round One Projects in full swing

Works on the construction of the multipurpose courts and upgrades to the Coonabarabran Sport and Recreation centre are in full swing.

Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Peter Shinton, said “ït is exciting to see these works progressing so quickly. These are projects that the community of Coonabarabran has waited a long time for so it’s great to see the amount of progress that has been made in a relatively short period of time”.

The construction of the multipurpose courts and upgrades to the Coonabarabran Sport and Recreation Centre are being funded under Round One of the NSW Governments’ Stronger Country Communities Fund. Co-contributions for both projects have also been made by Council.

“Construction of the multipurpose courts will see the development of five (5) multipurpose hard courts. Visitors to the Coonabarabran Sporting Complex will notice that the concrete for the courts has been laid and the footings for the light towers are in place. The poles for the netball and basketball rings have also been installed and the backboards are in place. At this stage it is expected that the multipurpose courts will be completed in September 2018”, Cr Shinton said.

“Once the courts are completed and power is connected Coonabarabran will have enough courts to host regional netball competitions and have lighting to allow the community to use the new courts all year round, which is great not only for netballers but for the whole community”, said Cr Shinton.

Cr Shinton commented that, “works are also progressing will with the project to upgrade and refurbish the Coonabarabran Sport and Recreation Centre. New lighting and air-conditioning has been installed and the old grandstand has been removed to make way for a new grandstand to be installed later in the year. Works have also commenced on the refurbishment of the squash courts and the changing room area with these works giving that area a whole new look”.

Cr Shinton said, “Council has been keen to keep the community up to date with what’s happening with both of these projects. Council has started a designated page on our website which has regular updates for both of the projects. These updates includes what’s been happening since the last report as well as images of the construction and progress of the works”.

“These projects are exciting projects for the community of Coonabarabran as well as the Warrumbungle Shire. We want the community to be able to see what’s happening and where we’re at with the projects as much as possible”, said Cr Shinton.
