Proposed 40kph Speed Zones for Coonabarabran and Dunedoo CBDs

Have your say on a new proposal for 40km/h speed zones in the CBDs of Coonabarabran and Dunedoo.

Council is seeking written submissions on a proposal by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to review, report, approve and implement a 40km/h speed zone in the CBDs of Coonabarabran (John, Edwards, Cassilis, Dalgarno and Essex Streets) and Dunedoo (Bolaro Street between Tallawang and Wallaroo Streets). Council is urging residents to have their say on the proposed change of speed zones.

This proposal is aimed at improving the safety of those streets in both Coonabarabran and Dunedoo. Evidence has shown that smarter road and intersection design, combined with lowering the speed limit in areas of high pedestrian activity, results in safety outcomes.

40km/h speed zones in high pedestrian activity areas in NSW has seen a 33 per cent reduction in crashes causing serious injuries and deaths between 2005 and 2015. These zones include busy shopping precincts and neighbourhoods.

The Coonabarabran and Dunedoo CBDs have been selected by TfNSW for this proposal due to their location on major highways and the density of traffic passing through.

Written submissions on TfNSWs proposal for the 40km/h speed zones in the CBDs of Coonabarabran and Dunedoo are invited and can be submitted online under the ‘Have Your Say’ tab on Council’s website, or via post addressed to the General Manager, PO Box 191, Coonabarabran, NSW, 2357.

Submissions will be received until 4:00pm on Tuesday 21 December 2021. All submissions will be forwarded to TfNSW for their information. Should you require further information please contact Council’s Acting Director Technical Services, Mr Gary Murphy on (02) 6849 2000.
