Mendooran placed on Level 5 water restrictions

Due to ongoing dry conditions and a sudden drop in river and bore levels Mendooran is being placed on level 5 water restrictions immediately.

New water restrictions had been announced for Binnaway, Dunedoo and Mendooran in December 2018, however since these restrictions were introduced the water supply situation hasn’t improved and Council is now introducing modified Level 5 water restrictions for Mendooran.

“Council has been closely monitoring the water situation in all our towns and it has become clear that a decision to increase the water restriction level in Mendooran needed to be made”, said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd.

“Water for the township of Mendooran is provided from an intake from the Castlereagh River, a bore and a backup bore.”

“Since increasing water restrictions in December there has been a significant reduction in the water supply from both the bore and Castlereagh River.”

“Modified Level 5 water restrictions still allow the watering of gardens with buckets and watering cans for two (2) hours a day between 6:00pm and 8:00pm”, he said.

“The decision to increase the water restriction level has not been made lightly and Council will continue to monitor both demand and river flows closely”, said Cr Todd.

Updated notices outlining water restrictions have been distributed to residents in Mendooran via a letterbox drop today.
