Mendooran moves to Level 6 Water Restrictions

Due to ongoing dry conditions, dropping river and bore levels and ongoing issues with algae, Mendooran is being placed on Level 6 water restrictions effective immediately.

“Water for the Mendooran town water supply is sourced from the Castlereagh River and from two bores” said Warrumbungle Shire Council General Manager, Roger Bailey.

“Unfortunately with the dropping water levels in the river and the bore water causing algae blooms in the Water Treatment Plant sedimentation lagoons Council is unable to maintain the supply at the previous water restriction level.”

“The Water Treatment Plant has had difficulties coping with the algae and this has resulted in elevated turbidity in the water leaving the plant”, said Mr Bailey.

“Regrettably, in addition to the sourcing of the water, the previous restriction level has not had the impact that was expected and has necessitated the Council implement Level 6 water restrictions.”

“Under Level 6 water restrictions there is to be no outside use of water.”

“To fully explain the restrictions, notices will be delivered to the community”, concluded Mr Bailey.
