Baradine Road Guardrail Installation

Upgrade works to the guardrail on Baradine Road near the Railway Crossing Bridge are currently being completed.

"The guardrail fence on Railway Crossing Bridge has been updated and secured on the side of the bridge to improve the shoulder width on the bridge", said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Denis Todd.

"New guardrail has also been installed on the Northern and Southern side of the bridge for better protection from the drop off on either side of the road".

Cr Todd said, "These works are part of a Black Spot funding grant that Warrumbungle Shire Council received from the Roads and Maritime Service (RMS). Black Spot projects aim to reduce the impact of road trauma in our local community by completing project at road locations where crashes are occurring or are likely to occur".

"Programs of this sort are very effective, saving the community many times the cost of the relatively minor road improvements that are implemented", said Cr Todd.

"Between 2013 and 2017 there have been 15 motor vehicle crashes on Baradine Road. Recent works have been targeted at improving the section of Baradine Road where there were a cluster of crashes" said Cr Todd.

"Baradine Road is a main road that is not only used by regular commuters but also the heavy vehicle industry. It is vital to ensure Baradine Road is maintained at a safe level for all types of traffic to use", Cr Todd said.

"Other Black Spot projects completed throughout the Shire have included improving drainage to reduce water cover on the road during minor flooding as well as road realignment, widening and wire rope barrier installation on a narrow curve. These works are all designed to improve the safety of our roads in a variety of conditions from roads flooding to reducing exposure to dangerous obstructions that are on the side of the road", said Cr Todd.

"There are still number of high priority areas that need to be addressed and Warrumbungle Shire Council is working its way through addressing each area", concluded Cr Todd.
