Touring by Car

If you’re travelling from Sydney’s west to the region, the most direct route is via the Great Western Highway through the Blue Mountains to Mudgee and then along the Castlereagh Highway through the towns of Dunedoo and Mendooran.

From Sydney via Newcastle, take the New England Highway to Branxton and detour through Merriwa along the Golden Highway. Take the Warrumbungle Way through Coolah and Binnaway to reach Coonabarabran.

For the most direct route from Melbourne and Brisbane, travel the Newell Highway which runs through the main street of Coonabarabran. The turn off to the towns of Baradine, Binnaway, Mendooran, Dunedoo and Coolah are located just off the highway on sealed scenic touring routes.

If travelling from Adelaide, take the Sturt or the Mallee Highways to join the Newell Highway and follow it through to Coonabarabran, or turn off at Gilgandra and visit Mendooran, Dunedoo, Coolah and Binnaway.
