Meanwhile a second stage provides non-stop professional country music and bush poetry entertainment from Friday afternoon and all day Saturday and Sunday. Campers are encouraged to come early to get a good camping spot. The gates open eleven days prior to the start of the festival, fees applies, no EFTPOS facilities available. This gives campers the chance the extend their stay in the peace and tranquility of Hartwood. Hartwood has been called the people’s festival – pets and children attend for free. Hundreds of caravans, motorhomes, camper trailers, and a sprinkling of tents gather here for the week to enjoy the great country music entertainment, a laid back camping experience, and a special camaraderie with their fellow country music fans.

The event caters for our whole community and embraces local families as well as the visitors and family members who often return over the Christmas period. Kicking off at 5pm with live music throughout the night; sleigh rides, fairy floss, knock ém downs, dancing Disney Characters and jumping castles for the kids, and chocolate wheel raffles for the adults. Local children, who attend Step-Up Dance Academy, perform and Santa arrives around 7pm to hand out show bags. The Christmas Lights Competition runs for the month of December. As with all events, volunteer assistance is vital and we are fortunate to have a great group who assist each year with setting up, selling tickets and 100 Clubs, manning the jumping castles and packing up. Dunedoo Men's Shed run the BBQ and the Hospital Auxiliary provide tea, coffee, drinks and slices.

Rachel Kennedy was a colonial folk hero. Born in the wild and remote Warrumbungles in 1845, she caught brumbies, hid bushrangers, went to war with squatter kings, fed starving families during the shearing strikes, worked as a revered bush nurse and midwife, and fought for the underdog after observing the bitter experiences of the Chinese on the goldfields. Rachel also built rare friendships with Aboriginal people, including a lifelong relationship with her 'sister' Mary Jane Cain, a proud campaigner for the rights of her people. Meticulously researched and written with compelling energy, this is a vivid and at times heart-breaking story of a pioneering woman who left a legacy that went well beyond her lifetime. Free event.
