Drop into the Coonabarabran Visitor Centre and meet our giant Diprotodon. Found near Tambar Springs in 1979, he is thought to be over 33 000 years old! The exhibition contains interpretive information, and guided tours are available for groups with advance notice. Call 1800 242 881 to book a tour.
Entry is free, and open to the public 7 days from 9am - 5pm.
While you are there, visit our new Aboriginal Keeping Place with its interesting artefacts on display, or wander through the art gallery to view works by local artists.
Discover the Aboriginal Dreaming stories of “The Morning Star and his Sons”, “Yowie, the Spirit of Death, and the Southern Cross” and “The Seven Emu Sisters” in the exhibition area of the Coonabarabran Visitor Information Centre.
These stories recount the creation of three constellations: The Morning Star, Orion and the Southern Cross.
Before you begin reading the stories, try pronouncing some Gamilaraay words linked with astronomy to get you started…
