2020 Local Government Elections

An election will be held in the Warrumbungle local government area on Saturday 12 September 2020.

Local elections are held every four years. Warrumbungle Shire Council's last elections were held in September 2016.

126 of 128 NSW councils will hold elections on 12 September 2020. Balranald and Central Darling councils will not be holding elections this year.

Monday 6 July 2020

  • NSW Electoral Commission online management system available to commence completing nomination forms.


Monday 3 August 2020

  • Lodgement of nominations commences.
  • Roll closes for confirming candidates.
  • Lodgement of postal vote applications commences.


Wednesday 12 August 2020

  • Nominations close at 12:00 noon.
  • Close of funding registration of candidates and groups at 12:00 noon.
  • Registration of electoral material (how-to-vote cards) for distribution on election day commences.


Thursday 13 August 2020

  • Ballot paper draw(s) conducted at the office of the returning officer for each area at 10:00am.


Monday 31 August 2020

  • Pre-poll voting period commences. Note: days and times of operation will vary for each location.


Friday 4 September 2020

  • Close of funding registration for third-party campaigners.
  • Close of registration of electoral material (how-to-vote cards) at 5:00pm.


Monday 7 September 2020

  • Close of postal vote applications at 5:00pm.


Friday 11 September 2020

  • Close of pre-poll voting period.


Saturday 12 September 2020

  • Election Day. Polling places open 8:00am - 6:00pm.
  • Registered electoral material appears on the NSW Electoral Commission website 8:00am - 6:00pm.


Monday 14 September 2020

  • Close of receipt of returned postal vote certificate envelopes at 6:00pm.


Tuesday 29 September 2020

  • Results declared during the period Friday 18 September 2020 to Tuesday 29 September 2020.

Once you decide to stand for election, there are a number of legal requirements for all candidates in NSW. Before a candidate or group of candidates can accept a political donation or make payments for electoral expenditure they must first register for the election. This page on the NSW Electoral Commission website contains information for candidates.
