Water Meter Replacement Program Shire Wide

To help reduce water wastage, the water meter replacement program is continuing across the Warrumbungle local government area.

“In the coming months the water meter replacement program will kick off again right across the Shire,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “This stage of the water meter replacement program will be targeting old and non-functional water meters.”

“Replacing those meters that are old and are not functioning correctly should reduce unaccountable water losses and will enable Council to track more accurate water usage trends in each town,” said Cr Doolan.

Staggered town meter replacements were completed throughout the 2020/2021 financial year. This financial year, 2021/2022, a whole Shire approach will be taken for those meters that have been identified as old and non-functional.

“With the new meters, water usage reads will be more accurate, allowing residents to understand their household usage better. In some instances, if residents’ old meters have been under reporting water usage and a new meter is installed, the resident may notice an increase in the water usage component of their water rates,” Cr Doolan explained.

While these works are being carried out, residents may see Council staff within the boundary of residences or properties, locating and working on the water meter. If water staff are required to isolate the water for a short period of time residents will be notified prior to this happening.

To enable connection of the new water meters a small amount of hand excavation may be required. Any surface that is disturbed during these works will be rectified.
