Warrumbungle Shire Council Shares Summer Safety Tips

With summer almost here, Warrumbungle Shire Council is offering essential summer safety tips to keep both visitors and locals safe this summer so everyone can enjoy the region's natural beauty during the hot months.

“Though summer isn’t the peak tourism season in the Warrumbungle region due to the heat, there are still plenty of ways to explore its outdoor attractions safely with proper preparation,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor Councillor Kathryn Rindfleish. “By following simple precautions, visitors and locals can make the most of the season and protect themselves from the heat and wildlife.”

To stay safe in the heat, dressing appropriately, wearing sunscreen, staying hydrated, and avoiding sun exposure during peak hours is essential. Wildlife, including snakes, are more active during summer, so visitors should wear appropriate footwear and stay alert, particularly in national parks, picnic areas, and local parks.

While exploring the region’s natural beauty, including bushwalking, stargazing, and local parks, visitors should stay informed about weather conditions, fire alerts, and potential park closures. Planning ahead is key to enjoying a safe summer.

Warrumbungle National Parks surrounding the Warrumbungle region are known for their stunning views and trails and it is a popular spot, but visitors should be aware of summer conditions and possible closures due to fire risk. Local pools, parks and local cafes offer great alternatives.

“For those looking to cool off, the Council’s public pools are always a great option and Warrumbungle Shire is lucky to have a pool in every town. Visitors can find pool locations and operating hours on the Warrumbungle Shire Council website,” Cr Rindfleish explained.

During the summer months (December to February), the Council encourages visitors to plan outdoor activities carefully and stay informed by checking updates from NSW National Parks, the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), and the Siding Spring Observatory (SSO).

“For more safety tips, or information on public pools and their hours, visit the Warrumbungle Shire Council website or pop in and visit our friendly staff at the Visitors information centre in Coonabarabran,” Cr Rindflesh concluded.
