Upgrades to Bomera and Dunedoo Cemetery

Upgrades to the cemeteries at Bomera and Dunedoo have recently been completed to meet the needs of these communities. ‚Äč

“The  improvements included the replacement of the fence at Bomera Cemetery, and installation of a water tank and shade structures with seating at Dunedoo Cemetery”, said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councilor Denis Todd. “These works had been identified through recent community consultation sessions.

“The post and rail fence at Bomera replaced the original post and rail fence, ensuring that the historic aspect of the cemetery is retained. The new water tank at the Dunedoo Cemetery provides water for fresh flowers at the cemetery and the new seating provides a place to sit and reflect out of the sun in summer.”

Cr Todd said, “Council had been successful in obtaining $42,000 worth of funding through the Drought Communities Programme – Extension for these improvements.”

“The Drought Communities Programme – Extension is a Federal Government programme that has provided funding to eligible councils for local community infrastructure or other projects to support the community during this terrible drought.”

“Upgrades to the cemeteries stimulated local community spending by using local resources, businesses and suppliers, and will provide a long-lasting benefit to the local community”, said Cr Todd.

“Throughout these upgrades it has been extremely important to keep the future needs of the community at the forefront of Council’s mind as well as preserving the historical features”, Cr Todd concluded.
