Tree Pruning set for John Street, Coonabarabran

The 24 Chanticleer Pear trees in the middle of John Street, Coonabarabran will be getting a trim on Sunday 15 August 2021. Part of the street will be closed to traffic while works are taking place.

“These Chanticleer Pear trees along John Street, Coonabarabran are a spectacular entrance to the town and it is time they undergo pruning to ensure they retain their shape and don’t become an obstruction for passing traffic,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Ambrose Doolan. “While works are being undertaken John Street, Coonabarabran between King Street and Essex Street will be closed, ensuring the safety of the arborists and the community.”

Traffic diversions will be in place on Sunday 15 August 2021, diverting highway traffic via Namoi Street, Coonabarabran.

“The trees in John Street are an ornamental pear and create an outstanding column of colour in the main street in Coonabarabran, with the tree really showing off in every season,” said Cr Doolan.

“With good moisture conditions over the last two seasons, there has been prolific growth in many of the trees and instead of developing into a preferred conical shape, they have grown outwards and into the path of passing traffic.”

“Council understands this road closure may cause inconvenience but with John Street being a very high traffic zone it’s important to keep our community and travellers safe as they travel through Coonabarabran,” concluded Cr Doolan.
