Security of Water Supply for Coonabarabran

Following the most recent drought Coonabarabran is now sitting in a much stronger position than ever before in relation to its water security.

“Water security in Coonabarabran is sitting at its best levels in several years,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ambrose Doolan. “Timor Dam is once again sitting at 100% of its 1,140 megalitre capacity and is providing good water security for the future of Coonabarabran.”

“In addition to this during the drought, with the generous support of the NSW State Government, Council developed seven new operational bores, bringing the total number of bores in operation to eleven” said Cr Doolan.

“Now Council is working on the pipeline project that will duplicate the pipeline supply from the bores and provide that back up should there be problems with the current pipeline. This is a $2.3M project and planning for this is well advanced with tenders about to be called for its construction.”

“Council is also still working towards developing the concept of increasing the capacity of Timor Dam. This is a much longer term project and will need much consideration and importantly the project will not be able to proceed unless there is significant government funding.”

“Water security is vitally important for the development of a community and it is great to see that we are in the current situation that we are and still improving it” concluded Cr Doolan.
