Sealing the missing link

Works are underway to seal the last unsealed section of Neilrex Road.

“Road works have commenced on Neilrex Road to allow for the last 6km of unsealed road between Coolah and Neilrex to be sealed with bitumen,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “It is great to see the ball rolling on this project now that funding has been secured.”

“The road between Coolah and Neilrex provides an important transport route for a large area of the Shire, particularly for farmers, residents and school children who rely on having a reliable road access free of dust hazard, corrugations and potholes,” said Cr Doolan.

The roadworks that are currently being undertaken involve the extension of pipe culverts, removal of trees and then placement of road base material. After preparation works are completed bitumen sealing will commence on the surface of Neilrex Road between Mooren Road and Dennykymine Road.

The total cost of the project is $1.7 million and is being funded by the NSW Government under the Fixing Local Roads program and through funding provided by the Australian Government under the Roads to Recovery Program.

“Thank you to both the NSW Government and Australian Government for funding this important project, it is set to significantly benefit our local communities,” Cr Doolan concluded.

The roadworks phase of the project has commenced and the project is planned to be completed in May 2022.
