The monitoring of the Warrumbungle Water Supply network has been modernised with the installation of SCADA telemetry network now completed across the Shire. “The SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and Telemetry Network Upgrade project has improved the water systems in place across the Warrumbungle local government area, with 43 existing water and sewer sites upgraded and 11 sites with new systems installed,” said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. “This project has seen all water operations now brought onto the one operating system.” Warrumbungle Water’s telemetry system is a valuable asset that allows for remote communication between water infrastructure units, such as reservoirs and pumping stations, to staff and computer systems. This system is crucial for monitoring and controlling vital equipment to provide safe and secure water across the Shire,” said Cr Doolan. “Another benefit of this project is that it will decrease the response times in reaction to potential water and sewer incidents by sending alerts directly to staff who can assist with preventing water quality and supply issues occur,” Cr Doolan explained. This project was funded by Infrastructure NSW and co-funded with Council under the Safe and Secure Water Program, which is administered by the Department of Planning and Environment. “This has been a great project to now see completed as it now gives our water operators a real time snapshot of all water and waste water treatment processes, at any given time right across the Shire, while providing residents with secure and improved water systems and supply,” Cr Doolan concluded.
