Warrumbungle Shire Council is delighted to announce it has secured $150,000 in funding from the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program. “This grant will support the temporary closure of streets in Coonabarabran and Coolah, transforming them into vibrant community hubs for two exciting street festivals, said Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Ambrose Doolan. "This grant will allow us to host two vibrant community street festival events, transforming our towns into lively hubs that celebrate the region's natural wonders and community spirit." The Open Streets Program aims to invigorate local streets by hosting events and activities on vehicle-free days, fostering thriving local economies and enhancing community connections. Mark Your Calendars for Two Unforgettable Festivals! Bloomin' Birds SpringFest in Coonabarabran (Saturday 21 September) Celebrate the arrival of spring with a vibrant festival featuring creative activities, delicious food stalls, local art, and captivating music along Dalgarno Street. Christmas Carnival and Parade in Coolah (Saturday 7 December) Bring in the festive season with a joyous Christmas parade, dazzling lights, festive markets, heart-warming carols, and family-friendly activities throughout Coolah. "We are excited to collaborate with local businesses, artists, music groups, community groups, and residents to develop a program for each festival that reflects the unique character of Coonabarabran and Coolah. Expressions of interest will be open soon," Cr Doolan explained. Stay tuned for more details! In the coming weeks, Council will share more information about each festival, including locations and exciting activities. Everyone is encouraged to get involved and create a vibrant and connected community in both Coonabarabran and Coolah. Mayor Doolan emphasised the importance of streets as critical public spaces that support local businesses, community connections, and overall well-being: "We want people to get out into their local neighborhood and enjoy local goods, services, and activities." Minister for Roads, Arts, Music and the Night-Time Economy, Jobs and Tourism John Graham said: “We’re excited to support these events in Coonabarabran and Coolah. “Too often our main streets are something we drive through, rather than drive to. Our streets are a critical part of our public and social infrastructure. Great streets make great towns and centres and reflect the local community and culture. “The Open Streets program is about temporarily transforming our main streets into vibrant and welcoming public event spaces. “The colour and diversity of these 130 events celebrates the unique personality of each town or suburb. This is what our vibrancy agenda is all about, backing locals to create events and entertainment that works for their local community.” The Open Streets Program is proudly funded by the NSW Government as part of the Vibrant Streets Package, delivered by Transport for NSW.
