Merrygoen Causeway on Yarrow Road, Mendooran

The causeway at Merrygoen Creek on Yarrow Road, Mendooran has been an ongoing issue and is submerged under water and sand, with the most recent events it has now been mostly closed for much of the past three years. Council staff have inspected the causeway numerous times over the past 12 months and unfortunately each time it has been inundated with water and sand.

Council has made representations to the NSW State Government seeking action to alleviate the backing up of Merrygoen Creek, unfortunately the response has not been positive. The relevant agency has, however, indicated that it will seek expressions of interest for the licencing of sand extraction from the site.

Council has considered the issues here and resolved not to close Yarrow Road through the Merrygoen Creek. Further, Council also resolved to express support for the licencing of sand extraction from the site.

With the condition of the crossing Council resolved to take no further action to improve access and will further assess and consider options as the weather conditions change and the conditions of the Creek improve.
